The Hood Internet continues their mastery of the remix as they take on this summer’s radio anthem “Pumped Up Kicks”, which also features a nice 16 from Hollywood Holt.  It’s currently up on Amazon.co.uk for free download, but it’s region restricted, so the Hood Internet fellas were nice enough to share with FSD.  This is definitely a big record and a nice look for the Hood Internet and Nigel.

2 days ago we watched  ‘Drive‘ and this film it’s now one of my favorite of this year: a classic ‘Indie’ styled production directed by Nicolas Winding Refn,

One of the real highlights of the film is it’s soundtrack which compliments the tenseness and pace of the film perfectly. The inclusion of a couple of tracks from the ‘Italians Do It Better’ roster of artists is the perfect marriage for what can only be described as the cinematic equivalent of a seedy night based mission in GTA IV.

‘Drive’ is a highly recommended way to spend 100 minutes of your life after which you couldn’t go far wrong by picking up theOST which also has some brilliant tracks/interludes composed by Cliff Martinez. One of the standout tracks featured is undoubtably Desire’s ‘Under Your Spell’. A sinister tale of obsession and the soundscape to those solitary drives through the city after midnight…

Purity Ring is a new side-project from the third and final member of Gobble Gobble, Corin — along with a Megan James who apparently, was apart of the first incarnation of Gobble Gobble back when. “Ungirthed” ubiquitously reveals Purity Ring’s interest in hip-hop influenced, Dilla-esque stuttering and sample based beats — a commonality that all three members off Gobble Gobble, I’m certain, can vouch for — while adding serene, alluring female vocals to the mix — a less common trend, making it all the more refreshing.

Well this was unexpected. Drizzy Drake himself gets ahold of one of our favorite tunes at the moment, “Wildfire” by SBTRKT and indie-princess Yukimi Nagano (Little Dragon) and throws a quick verse over it. How or why did this even happen? No idea. Props to Drake though…not only making this wonderful song even hotter, but for even attempting it at all. Now, will this start a worldwide trend of mainstream rappers going in over obscure future-bass productions? Probably not. But hey, we can dream..

Today I’ve got a real sick chill remix of the remix of ‘Hits Me Like A Rock’ by CSS. And it’s a  Moombahton remix, which is a slowed down genre of around 108-112 bpm (beats per minute) compared to the normal 128 bpm for most house music.

This CSS remix is super catchy. It’s got a nice, summery vibe that Francis accentuates with the reggaeton elements of “moombahton.” Get it? Moombah + reggaeton = moombahton.

Two good remixes to start the week.

The first is dedicated to Sara, this version brings to mind her sipping (as usual) a good glass of wine, at dusk, with Arturo on her legs resting from a long day.
This amazing track is remixed by Michael Brun, an 18 year old DJ/Producer from Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. The young Haitian producer picked up the song and built a remix of it.

A bit more electronic, yet it does justice to the original.

The second remix is from Aussie Adam G.

Teenagersintokyoseem to be something of a throwback to the edgy synth pop of the 1980s, and where new single Peter Pan isn’t a five star classic, it definitely shows promise for what lies ahead.

The song begins with eerie synths and a fairly dated drum sound, creating a strange and dark mix of Nine Inch Nails going Disco. This gives way to an even more dated guitar sound, that wouldn’t have been out of place in a Spandau Ballet song. It’s all fairly confusing, and there’s something about it that feels like it came straight out of the 80′s as opposed to being ‘the next big thing’

We are back! It’s been a long time but now we got a new song to enjoy. It’s the mesmerizing jam “Cover Your Tracks”. It’s a song that will make you move in your chair, while also giving off it’s fair share of blissful joy. It breathes and dances in the air, allowing you to become fully absorbed in it by the time it ends.

Dan Lissvik of Studio is responsible for the admirable production heard on these songs. The duo of him and Young Galaxy is not one to mess with. It’s early but I have a feeling Shapeshifting is going to be one of the more well applauded albums in 2011.

Beyond being a beautiful song from a great soul / hip hoppy outfit from Ontario, I have to say this song has pretty much kept me sane today, having listened to it on repeat because it literally keeps the wave of stress at bay.  It has a dose of the same sexiness that The xx knocked us over with last year.

Sometime last year Marc Johnce took Fred Falke’s remix of Grizzly Bear’s “Two Weeks” and mashed it up with Lily Allen’s “Not Fair” to make an excellent song. You can’t go wrong with Lily Allen’s vocals, which is probably why Doctor Rosen Rosen decided to remix her entire album. I will probably be jamming this song for the next few days.. headphones up. The video remix that Marc made recently for his mashup also used an impressive amount of different video sources (listed below).

We are back and Def Starr too!

As per usual, this song is a remix that actually improves on the original (although the original is good). Def Starr reworked this song turning it into a kind of electronic jam session. I’m hoping this could get enough Like’s and Comments to make it one of September’ loved ones.

Adeladian boys def starr have trounced me with this empathetically sweet working of phoenixs ‘Fences’. This really sums up a beautiful day of sun with the low intro chords that perfectly accent vocals from front man Thomas Mars.
